He is a pleasant, friendly and likeable man who possesses a certain charm and an air of quiet strength. Sensitive and helpful, he aims to please others and hopes be liked in return. However, one should never judge a book by its cover, because Dirk is actually rather demanding, can be highly selective and is quite the perfectionist. This can make him fastidious - obsessive even, resulting in some rather scathing remarks and caustic criticism if his suggestions are not followed down to the letter. This attention to detail could be observed in his elegant and refined physical appearance or by an inclination to order and exemplary punctuality; or perhaps by way of a scrupulous professional conscience. All the same - and this is one of his more puzzling characteristics - he tends to over-focalise on one of these aspects whilst neglecting other areas of his life that are of equal importance. For example, he is capable of re-writing a letter many times over until he is completely satisfied or obsessively picking at the miniscule pieces of fluff on his jumper, but in the meantime his desk steadily becomes a jumbled pile of mess!... He is very attached to his family, loathes violence and flinches at conflict. He has a strong sense of duty and is always there when you need him, with the exception of if you need him for a fight in which case he will probably rapidly disappear from the scene, or that failing he could become withdrawn and introverted. As a child, Dirk is endearing and affectionate - he knows exactly how to go about obtaining the love that he requires from those around him. With his paternal instinct he makes the perfect big brother and is capable of keeping an attentive eye on his younger charges. It is necessary to encourage his sense of responsibility as well as any artistic talent that he may have, unless baking cakes is his favourite activity, in which case he won't need nearly as much encouragement - voracity and sensuality obliging...
